Vocal · a cappella · A dry vocal, then Nyx: the tail stays on the note she sang

Best on headphones · same mix, same loudness · switch while it plays On the second pass it switches to Nyx by itself.

The real plug-in, no sound: the Stone Cathedral preset, then the room Nyx built in metres.

Hear the before and after

Press play, then switch between BEFORE and AFTER while it plays: it is the same passage, at the same loudness.

Guitar · fingerstyle

A real room: a stone nave 46 m long

The Stone Cathedral preset is a room built in metres, 46 m long and 19 m high, stone walls and a marble floor, traced ray by ray. Its 9-second tail comes from the room, not from a knob.

Piano

In-Key Bloom: a long tail that follows the chords

A dry piano, then the In-Key Bloom preset: a wide tail with Consonance at 60 %, the part of Nyx that listens to the chord and lets the tail ring inside it.

Drums · hip-hop

Natural Hall on dry drums

Two bars of close-miked drums, then the Natural Hall preset at its 30 % mix: the kit moves into a hall, and the last hits keep ringing after the groove stops.

Every example is the same passage without and with Nyx 1.3, run through the plug-in itself on a factory preset exactly as it loads, and loudness-matched: what changes is the space, not the volume. The vocal, piano and drums were generated for these demos with ElevenLabs Music as dry recordings; the guitar comes from our own guitar engine.

See it in action

Nyx 1.3 is its biggest update yet: a new engine (NYX 2) that is dense from the very first moment with no pitch wobble in the tail, six algorithms, rooms you design in metres and Nyx ray-traces, and a HARMONY page where the tail sings back the chord you play. Everything you saved before sounds exactly the same.

The CLASSIC engine, the one every earlier session keeps, is a sixteen-line FDN with twelve spaces that go well beyond the usual hall/plate: Hall, Cathedral, Cave, Plate, Cosmos, Abyss, Nebula, Underworld, Aether, Glass Temple, Black Hole and Dreamfall. Each has its own character, from an intimate room to an abyss that gives nothing back, and the tails run for minutes while staying clean.

But you are not limited to picking a preset: in DESIGN SPACE you draw the room. Drag the corners of the polygon and that room’s geometry becomes the reverb: the distances between its walls drive the reflections, so a square and a cathedral nave genuinely sound different. On the SPACE PAD you shape size and brightness on the fly.

The harmonic side is just as real: Consonance and Tension make the tail sing the notes of your music, shimmer has selectable pitch, and the SPECTRAL engine scatters crystalline sparkles an octave above the source. The control set is studio-grade: three-band decay (BASS, HIGH DECAY and damping) to keep the low end tight and the air alive, plus pre-delay, diffusion, stereo width, modulation, filters and mix. Freeze holds the tail forever, Gate chops it, Duck pulls it down while you play, and four morphable scenes blend entire environments into one another.

And then there is the interface: an animated black cat that shifts pose and mood with every parameter, while echo particles genuinely ricochet off the walls of the room you drew. Nyx is free: type your email and the download and your licence arrive by email, and the licence stays in your Arswerk account too.

What’s inside

  • NEW in 1.3 — the NYX 2 engine: dense from the first moment, no pitch wobble in the tail, a decay time for every octave that you draw on the curve
  • Six algorithms: Space, Steel Plate, Spring, Gated, Reverse and Bloom
  • Design a real room in metres, from a small studio to a hall 1 km wide: shape, height, 38 materials, columns, pews, an audience — ray-traced, so you hear every surface
  • MATCH IR: load a recording of a real place and Nyx builds a room that sounds like it
  • HARMONY: it hears the chord you play and the tail sings it back in key; clashing notes fade first
  • Tempo sync, sidechain ducking, DISTANCE, FREEZE LAYERS and a headphones mode
  • Everything you saved with an earlier Nyx sounds exactly the same (the CLASSIC engine stays)
  • CLASSIC engine: a 16-line FDN for dense, smooth tails that never turn metallic
  • DESIGN SPACE: draw the room, and its shape really does drive the reflections
  • Materials you can hear: every reflection carries the surface it hit — glass rings brittle and loses its bass, stone answers granular, wood has body, fabric spreads into a soft wash, water moves so its reflections wander
  • Rooms in metres, from 3 m to 1 km: the decay is predicted from volume and surfaces (Sabine), so swapping marble for fabric shortens the tail by itself
  • Room physics: modes make small rooms sound small, flutter echo appears between parallel hard walls, air absorption darkens long tails
  • OCCUPANCY, FLOOR material and listener FACING
  • FOCUS, SPREAD, ATTACK and EARLY/LATE to govern how the tail sings and when it blooms
  • SPACE PAD: shape size and brightness by dragging the puck, in real time
  • 12 ready-made spaces: Hall, Cathedral, Cave, Plate, Cosmos, Abyss, Nebula, Underworld, Aether, Glass Temple, Black Hole, Dreamfall
  • Consonance and Tension: the tail sings in the key of your music
  • Shimmer with selectable pitch (+12, +7, +5, -12, +12+7, +19)
  • SPECTRAL: a spectral engine that scatters crystalline sparkles above the music
  • Three-band decay: BASS, HIGH DECAY and damping
  • Evolve, infinite Freeze, Gate and Ducking
  • Scene morph: 4 whole-space snapshots with automatable Scene and Blend
  • Echo particles that ricochet off the walls of your own room
  • VST3, AU and CLAP for macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel), Windows and Linux
  • Free: just your email, the download and the licence arrive by email
